Welcome to
Tewantin.com.au
Tewantin is a beautiful town on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. It is located on the Noosa River, and is the
departure point for access to the famous North Shore beach drive which goes all the way to Rainbow Beach and Fraser
Island.
If anyone asks “where’s Tewantin?” - the easiest answer is “Noosa”! This is because Tewantin is
part of a group of towns that all join together on the northern Sunshine Coast. Tewantin flows into
Noosaville; which flows into Noosa; which flows into Sunshine Beach etc.
Other close by localities are Cooroy and Eumundi – both about 15 minutes away by
car.
History
Tewantin is one of the original towns established in Queensland, and dates back to the
mid-1850’s. Its original claim to fame was being a shipping port for the logging industry. It was also a
fishing village.
Today, even with modern development, Tewantin maintains a lot of its old history. There are some
beautiful examples of old Queenslander style homes.
It’s also a bit quieter than it’s near neighbour Noosa!
Getting there
By road, Tewantin is about 1 hour 40 minutes north of Brisbane on the Bruce Highway. Turn off at
either Eumundi or Cooroy. Or you can come via Maroochydore to the south.
By air, the nearest major airport is near Maroochydore which is a short 30 minute drive away.
JetStar and Virgin both have daily flights.
